What Is Church Membership?
We take Church membership seriously at Grace Church.
Though the word “membership” is not used in the New Testament, there are certain principles found therein, which can be applied to our context of membership today.
Because we do not live at the same time, in the same place, or the same society, we must take those principles found in scripture and allow them to inform our thinking, as they do for church membership.
The biblical principles found in Acts consists of:
1. Commitment to the local church body and
2. Submission to the leadership.
These principles are what have formed our understanding and commitment to membership.
Becoming a Member
The membership process begins with the Membership 101 class. In this class we explain the biblical importance of church membership and what makes up a healthy church. The 101 class is not required to become a member but is highly recommended. The class which is required for membership is the Membership Matters class. This class summarizes much of the 101 material and also explains church polity and practice (i.e., who leads the church and why we do what we do).
It will also give the elders a chance to get to know you as they interact with you throughout the class.
Contact the office to find out when the next Membership Matters class begins.
