Raised in Golden, Colorado, Travis joined the US Navy in 1988, entered the SEAL Teams, and came to faith in Jesus Christ in 1990. God immediately began training him for pastoral ministry using various means—military, federal law enforcement, and higher education; roles of submission and leadership, organization and management; and exposure to national and international teaching and leadership.
Most foundationally, God prepared Travis by teaching him to love his dear wife Melinda, and helping them raise a family together. The two became one flesh in 1993 and have five wonderful children: Nicolas, Leah, Jesse, Scott, and Cali.
Travis earned a B.A. in Biblical Studies from The College at Southeastern in 1997. He spent a few years in federal law enforcement, but left to pursue pastoral training at The Master’s Seminary in 2000 (M.Div., 2006). Travis ministered at Grace Community Church and worked at Grace to You (the international media ministry of John MacArthur), serving most recently as managing director. He was ordained to pastoral ministry in 2012, served on the elder board, and pastored in the GraceLife and Doulos fellowships.
Travis became the teaching pastor at Grace Church in November 2014, equipping saints for the work of ministry (Eph. 4:12). He strives to proclaim Jesus Christ, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so he may present everyone mature in Christ (Col. 1:28).
